JICA President Tanaka Met with the UNDP Administrator Steiner

On December 16, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Achim Steiner at JICA Headquarters.
At the outset of the meeting, President Tanaka welcomed Administrator Steiner’s visit to JICA Headquarters on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Japan’s ODA. He highlighted that the collaboration between UNDP and JICA symbolizes a good evolution of cooperation between JICA and international institutions and expressed commitment to further strengthening cooperation as ongoing co-creation partners under the shared concept of human security.
Administrator Steiner conveyed appreciation to JICA for their longstanding cooperation. He stressed the importance of developing global multilateral platforms such as TICAD through innovative digital solutions and private sector engagement. He also underlined the UNDP’s willingness to continue working together to tackle global issues, including support to fragile states.
Given the current times are fraught with numerous challenges, including political turmoil and economic constraints, President Tanaka furthermore emphasized that it is crucial to envision a better future and seek the means to realize it through development cooperation. Additionally, he stated JICA’s commitment to attracting diverse development actors to foster broader cooperation and collaboration with UNDP, not only through field-level collaboration, but also by continuously sharing examples of mutual co-creation with the international community.
